Material Exchange
Intelligent sourcing, made simple.
context
Material Exchange is a B2B digital platform for the fashion industry. It enables brands to discover materials, connect with suppliers, request samples, manage projects with manufacturers and access sustainability data via Wordly in one system. Traditionally, material sourcing happens through emails, spreadsheets, trade fairs, and personal networks. Information is fragmented. Communication is manual. Data is difficult to standardize or compare. The platform was designed to centralize these workflows and create a structured, digital sourcing environment.
challenge
The core challenge was experiential and architectural. The platform needed to translate a complex, relationship-driven industry into a structured digital system without oversimplifying its nuance. This required defining clear information hierarchies, intuitive workflows, and interaction patterns that could support multiple user roles with different objectives. AI needed to be embedded in ways that enhanced decision-making and reduced manual effort, while preserving transparency and trust. The work demanded system thinking across product logic, user experience, and operational behavior. Not isolated features, but a coherent and usable platform structure.
